Bagshahi Bariatric & General Surgery Welcomes Dr. Joshua Weis!

We are delighted to introduce our new highly skilled bariatric surgeon, Dr. Joshua Weis, who has joined our practice to expand our comprehensive bariatric and general surgery services!

Personalized, Patient-Centered Care

Dr. Weis is fellowship-trained in minimally invasive surgery, surgical weight loss procedures, and complex hernia surgery. He is passionate about developing long-term relationships with his patients who struggle with obesity, metabolic diseases, and general surgical conditions. Believing there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to weight loss, Dr. Weis individualizes treatment plans to meet each patient’s unique needs — whether through medication, surgery, or a combination of both — to help them achieve sustainable results.

In addition to bariatric care, Dr. Weis brings advanced expertise in hernia surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction, specializing in patients with recurrent or complex hernias. In his prior practice, he was often a referred surgeon in cases deemed too challenging by other surgeons. He performs a wide range of hernia repairs using open, minimally invasive, and hybrid techniques, tailoring each approach to the patient’s anatomy and clinical situation. His goal is simple yet profound: to make every hernia repair the last one his patients will ever need.

Education and Training

Dr. Weis earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) in Dallas, TX. He then pursued a fellowship in minimally invasive, bariatric, foregut, and hernia surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. His research contributions have been recognized nationally and include the Researcher in Training Award from the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) in 2020.

Before joining Bagshahi Bariatrics, Dr. Weis served as clinical faculty at the Dallas VA Medical Center, where he helped build a comprehensive medical weight loss and bariatric surgery program for veterans. He also developed an abdominal wall reconstruction program for patients with massive hernias, earning referrals for complex cases from across the region — including in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and beyond.
