We are proud to welcome Dr. Joshua Weis to our team, a highly skilled bariatric surgeon who brings advanced expertise in bariatric, minimally invasive, and complex hernia procedures.
Dr. Weis is known for his patient-centered approach and his dedication to creating individualized treatment plans for those facing obesity, GERD, metabolic disorders, and other general surgical concerns. He recognizes that every patient’s journey is unique, and works closely with each individual to design the most effective path forward, whether this involves surgery, medical weight loss therapy, or a tailored combination of both. His focus is always on sustainable, long-term success and an improved quality of life.
Beyond bariatric surgery, Dr. Weis has extensive experience in hernia surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction, particularly for patients with recurrent or complicated cases. Throughout his career, he has become known for accepting challenging referrals and using innovative open, minimally invasive, and hybrid surgical techniques. His philosophy is simple yet powerful: every hernia repair should be the last one a patient ever needs.
Dr. Weis’ educational pedigree is extensive, completing his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from The University of Pittsburgh and his general surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) in Dallas. Standing out among the few bariatric surgeons who have undergone a surgical fellowship, Dr. Weis received comprehensive fellowship training in minimally invasive, bariatric, foregut, and hernia surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. His excellence in bariatric research has also been recognized nationally, earning the Researcher in Training Award from the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) in 2020.
Prior to joining Bagshahi Bariatrics, Dr. Weis was part of on-staff faculty at the Dallas VA Medical Center, where he contributed to formulating a comprehensive weight loss and bariatric program for veterans. He also created a specialized abdominal wall reconstruction program for men and women with complex hernias, earning referrals for out-of-town patients from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas, among other states.
Dr. Joshua Weis is a valued addition to our growing team at Bagshahi Bariatric and General Surgery and we are fortunate to have him join our practice and the Fort Worth medical community!

Areas of Expertise
- Gastric Sleeve (Sleeve Gastrectomy): Also known as sleeve gastrectomy, this popular weight loss surgery removes a portion of the stomach to create a smaller, sleeve-shaped pouch.
- Gastric Bypass Surgery: Gastric bypass is a well-established bariatric procedure that re-routes part of the digestive system to reduce calorie absorption and portion size.
- Bariatric Revision Surgery: For patients who have previously undergone weight loss surgery but are experiencing complications or inadequate weight loss, Dr. Weis offers revision procedures to correct, enhance, or convert a prior bariatric operation to restore optimal results.
- Medical Weight Management: Not all patients require surgery to achieve their health goals. Dr. Weis provides comprehensive medical weight management plans that combine nutrition, exercise, behavioral support, and FDA-approved medications when appropriate.
- Complex and Recurrent Hernia Repair: Hernias that return after prior surgery or involve extensive abdominal weakness require advanced expertise. Dr. Weis specializes in treating recurrent and complex hernias using customized surgical plans. His goal is to provide long-term durability and relief from chronic discomfort or complications.
- Abdominal Wall Reconstruction: For patients with large, chronic, or complicated abdominal wall defects, Dr. Weis performs advanced abdominal wall reconstruction. This intricate procedure restores both the strength and function of the abdominal wall, often after trauma, infection, or multiple failed repairs.
- Minimally Invasive (Laparoscopic and Robotic) Surgery: Dr. Weis is fellowship-trained in minimally invasive surgery, including both laparoscopic and robotic-assisted techniques. These advanced approaches allow for smaller incisions, less postoperative pain, reduced scarring, and quicker recovery.
